The route

Anchorages you cannot reach by road.

North of La Paz the coast empties out. No marinas, no resorts, no cell signal for stretches of it — just islands, red rock and water that turns from cobalt to glass. These are the three anchorages that define the northern half of the route.

San Jose Island

Between La Paz and Loreto · Uninhabited

The largest island on this stretch and the reason the route stops feeling like a coastal cruise. Its west side hides a mangrove estuary you enter by tender at high water, herons lifting off ahead of the bow. The east side is cliff and open Gulf. Across the channel sits San Evaristo, a fishing village of a few dozen people where the crew can buy the day's catch.

San Francisquito

No road access · Superyacht favorite

A crescent of white sand with nothing behind it. There is no road in, no palapa, no other boat most days — which is exactly why captains put it on the itinerary. Guests swim off the transom, hike the ridge for the view back over the anchorage, and stay on deck after dinner because there is no light for a hundred miles and the Milky Way sits right on top of the mast.

Loreto Bay National Marine Park · Turn of the route

The northern reach, and the oldest town in the Californias — the first mission was founded here in 1697, with the Sierra de la Giganta rising straight behind it. Offshore, Loreto Bay National Marine Park protects five islands: Coronado with its volcanic cone and white sandbar, Carmen, Danzante, Monserrat and Santa Catalina. In winter and spring blue whales feed in this channel. From here the yacht turns south and runs the coast home.

Before you book

Straight answers on the superyachts.

Which superyacht is best for the Cabo or La Paz to Loreto route?

It depends on group size and how remote you want to go. The Benetti 134' is the vessel this 7-day itinerary was built around: 14 guests, 7 cabins, 2025 build based in Baja. The Gulf Craft 141' is the largest available with 10 crew, the Numarine 132' adds a glass-sided pool and 6,000 nm range for the most remote anchorages, and the Custom Line 110' suits groups of 10 or fewer. Availability rotates, so ask for the current superyacht list.

When is the Numarine 132' available in Baja?

From November. She is currently running the Miami - Bahamas route and repositions to the Sea of Cortez for the Baja season, so November and December dates can be held now. The Benetti 134', Gulf Craft 141' and Custom Line 110' are already in Baja and taking charters.

How much does a superyacht charter in Mexico cost?

The 7-day, 6-night Sea of Cortez route runs from $200,000 USD plus APA on the Gulf Craft 141' and from $266,000 USD plus APA on the Benetti 134'. Nightly-rate superyachts start at $33,800 USD on the Custom Line 110' and $42,000 USD APA included on the Numarine 132'. All rates are private, whole-yacht charter departing Cabo San Lucas or La Paz.

How many guests can sleep on board?

Overnight capacity on the superyachts currently available ranges from 10 to 14 guests: 14 on the Benetti 134' across 7 cabins, 12 on the Gulf Craft 141' across 6 en-suite cabins, 12 on the Numarine 132' across 5 staterooms, and 10 on the Custom Line 110' across 5 cabins. Day-trip capacity can be higher; ask us.

What is APA and is it included?

APA is the Advance Provisioning Allowance: fuel, food, beverages, marina and customs fees, billed against the charter. The industry standard is 25-30% of the charter fee. On the Numarine 132' the published nightly rate already includes APA; on the Benetti 134' APA is charged separately.

Where does the charter start and end?

You can depart from Cabo San Lucas or from La Paz. The route runs north past Cabo Pulmo, Cerralvo, Espiritu Santo, Balandra, San Francisquito and Agua Verde to the Loreto region, hitting the most remote anchorages of the Sea of Cortez, and can end in Loreto, La Paz or back in Cabo. Ground transfers are arranged by our concierge.

How far in advance should I book?

Peak season in Baja runs November through May and superyachts of this size are limited in Mexico, so 60 to 120 days ahead is realistic. A flat $100 USD prebook deposit holds a date while we confirm availability.
